A Study of Beijing’s “Daokou”

Among all the Beijing place names of the form “X-daokou,” Wu Daokou—often jokingly called the “Center of the Universe”—is by far the most famous. Looking at the map, we can find three places called Si Daokou, one Wu Daokou, and two Liu Daokou in Beijing today. In this piece, we will examine how these “daokou” came to be.

What determines the voltage?
